IAAT Achievements – An Update

Stronger Together. A Stronger Voice for Adventure Tourism.

IAAT is the collective voice of Ireland’s adventure activity sector — bringing operators together, tackling the issues that matter and helping shape a stronger future for adventure tourism across the island.

Coming to the end of 2026, IAAT boasts 225+ members. Our community is growing — and so is our impact.

Influence – A Voice at the Top Table
IAAT now represents the adventure activity sector at key tourism forums and consultations, ensuring our members have a voice where important decisions are made and public policy is shaped. We represent the sector on:

  1. the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC) – national industry lobbying body; board position
  2. the Northern Ireland Tourism Alliance (NITA) – national industry lobbying body; board position
  3. Fáilte Ireland – sitting on the Industry Steering Group, and working in all areas of activity tourism
  4. Tourism NI – facilitating the Outdoor Tourism Partnership and other forums
  5. Tourism Ireland – contributing to the Central Marketing Partnership Group and other forums focused on the promotion of activity tourism internationally
    – we are also delighted to now have a dedicated adventure tourism function within TI
  6. the Alliance for Insurance Reform – strategy sub-committee
  7. Comhairle na Tuaithe, with DRCDG as a key partner – including multiple sub-groups towards the implementation of the national outdoor recreation strategy
  8. European Confederation for Outdoor Employers – partnering on EU projects
  9. Adventure Trade Travel Association – partnering on the international context

A Stronger Adventure Community
We connect more than 225 members across the island of Ireland, creating opportunities to collaborate, share knowledge and address common challenges. We are stronger together.

Core Solutions for Members
We developed a dedicated Group Insurance facility, together with practical supports to help members navigate one of the sector’s biggest challenges.

We developed a world class Safety Management System programme – with the support of Fáilte Ireland – to support members with their systems and subsequently help ensure that the sector had the best opportunity to access international underwriters.

We are currently working on the creation of an industry-led Code of Good Practice Guidelines (CGPG), initially for paddlesports. This work is being supported by an IAAT-member technical working group.

Lobbying That Delivers
IAAT actively represents the sector with government, tourism agencies and other stakeholders — successfully advocating for supports and schemes that benefit adventure activity providers.

IAAT is also currently lobbying on a number of other key areas, including extending the 9% VAT rate for ALL activity providers.

Solving the Issues That Matter
From individual operator challenges to wider sectoral issues, IAAT works directly with public authorities and other organisations to find solutions and improve the operating environment for our members.

A World-Class Industry Conference
The annual IAAT Adventure Tourism Conference has become a major gathering for our industry. In 2025, more than 250 delegates came together over three days to connect, learn, share ideas and help shape the future of adventure tourism.

One Community. One Voice. Growing Impact.
